Damit das Essen auch schmackhaft wird sind Gewürze zu einem unverzichtbaren Bestandteil geworden. Eines der wohl häufigsten verwendeten Gewürze ist Salz. Wenn man es jedoch genau betrachtet, fällt Salz eigentlich gar nicht unter die Gewürze. Es ist vielmehr ein Mineral und streng gesetzlich betrachtet, werden nur Früchte, Knospen, Rinden, Blüten und Wurzeln als Gewürze bezeichnet.
Das Mineral besteht zum Großteil aus Natriumchlorid und es ist eigentlich fast überall vertreten. Ob im Meer (rund 3 Prozent), im Blut oder im Regen, das Mineral kommt fast überall vor. Das Mineral (Gewürz) sollte jedoch nur in Maßen aufgenommen werden, denn zu viel Salz in der Suppe schmeckt bekanntlich nicht.
